Belgian Waffle Benedict

While visiting SF this weekend there was something I had to try, the Belgian Waffle and Bacon Benedict at Frisk's on Valencia Street. On a previous trip I had walked by this place and saw this godly creation on a menu but it was only available on Saturdays and Sundays so I knew i had to come back. Got up Saturday morning and walked through the rain to the spot. Now my expectations were pretty high as this is a Belgian restaurant and they should have it down to a science.

The eggs were fairly cooked and not runny as I like them but the Hollandaise was delicious and it had been a good week or 2 since my last benedict so I was fiending. The Waffle taste mixed with the sauce and eggs was excellent and with a ice cold glass of fresh lemonade on the side was very satisfying. My one complaint would be that they seemed to have made the waffle and poached eggs at different times and by the time it got to our table the waffle was only luke warm (where did that saying come from by the way?) If it was moist and warm it would of made this 10x better. Never the less a very good combo and I may need to try this at home now.

  1. The word lukewarm has a long and respectable history, going right back to the 14th century. The adjective luke sems to be an alternative form of lew, Old English hleow, which meant 'tepid'
